Balls
Type: component
PROBLEM
The spherical geometry was needed and nothing in the catalog covered it.
SOLUTION
Balls is a general-purpose hemispherical to oblate-hemispherical form-factor component covering the full taxonomy of spherical and near-spherical anatomical, mechanical, and structural applications within the MTREES product ecosystem. The component is agnostic. The component does not ask what it is being used for. The component has a geometry, a density profile, a surface texture specification, and a thermal response curve, and beyond that the implementation layer makes its own decisions which the component respects. Fabrication substrate varies by application: silicone composite for anatomical variants, steel alloy for mechanical bearing applications, rubber compound for impact absorption, and Nitinol mesh for the non-pneumatic sporting variant that cannot go flat and will not be discussed further in this entry. The hemispherical base plane provides a mounting interface for chest-wall, axle, and structural attachment configurations. The oblate-hemispherical variant introduces a flattening coefficient at the base plane for applications requiring a lower profile without sacrificing the essential spherical character of the unit, which is non-negotiable. Thermal properties are documented. See intangible_netsu_kintama for active thermal state classification above the operational threshold.
